Connecting to the New File Server

Overview

The new company file server is available at:

\\eagletunisia.local\data

Sign in with your usual company (domain) account. This guide explains how the folders are organised and how to connect from Windows and Linux.

Folder structure

Inside the share you will find three main folders:

Folder

What it is for

Who can access it

Division

The main working area of the company, organised by department (e.g. BIM, AI, …). Store your day-to-day project files here.

Staff of each division

Management

Reserved for HR and management functions.

Restricted to authorised people only

Public

A common exchange area for sharing files between colleagues.

Open to everyone

If you get "Access denied" on Management, that is expected unless you have been granted access.

Windows

  1. Open File Explorer (press Win + E).
  2. Click the address bar, type \\eagletunisia.local\data and press Enter.
  3. If prompted, sign in with your company account (e.g. username@eagletunisia.local) and tick Remember my credentials.
  4. The three folders Division, Management and Public will appear.

Optional – map it as a network drive so it always appears under This PC:

  1. In File Explorer, right-click This PC → Map network drive…
  2. Choose a drive letter (S:).
  3. Folder: \\eagletunisia.local\data
  4. Tick Reconnect at sign-in and click Finish.

Linux

On Linux you simply mount the SMB share.

Option A – File manager (GNOME Files, Dolphin, etc.)

  1. Open the file manager and go to Other Locations (or press Ctrl + L).
  2. In Connect to Server enter: smb://eagletunisia.local/data
  3. Choose Registered user, enter your company username, domain eagletunisia.local and password.

Option B – Command line

# Install the SMB client tools (Debian/Ubuntu)
sudo apt install cifs-utils

# Create a mount point
sudo mkdir -p /mnt/data

# Mount the share (replace YOUR_USERNAME)
sudo mount -t cifs //eagletunisia.local/data /mnt/data \
  -o username=YOUR_USERNAME,domain=eagletunisia.local,uid=$(id -u),gid=$(id -g)

You will be asked for your password. Files will then be available in /mnt/data.

Optional – mount automatically at boot

  1. Create a credentials file ~/.smbcredentials:
username=YOUR_USERNAME
password=YOUR_PASSWORD
domain=eagletunisia.local
  1. Protect it: chmod 600 ~/.smbcredentials
  2. Add this line to /etc/fstab (replace youruser and the uid/gid with yours, see id):
//eagletunisia.local/data  /mnt/data  cifs  credentials=/home/youruser/.smbcredentials,uid=1000,gid=1000,_netdev  0  0
  1. Test with sudo mount -a.

Troubleshooting

  • Server not found – make sure you are connected to the company network (or VPN if working remotely).
  • Wrong password / login loop – double-check your username and domain; on Windows you can clear old credentials in Credential Manager.
  • Access denied – you may not have permission for that folder. Contact IT if you think you should.
